June-July Reading Run Down..

Hello, hellooo!

I just wanted to come on here to talk about the books I’ve read so far this in June and July. It’s been a minute since I’ve been hungry for reading so, feeling the need to write these mini reviews makes me very happy!

Some of these I DNF’d but I felt like talking about them regardless..

(click on the titles for the synopsis of each of these books)

Title: Rush

Author: Brianna Hale

Pages: 332

Publisher: Self Pub

Pub Date: 4/11/21

Date Started: 6/27/21

Date Finished: 7/3/21

Rating: 💙💙💙💙💙

My Thoughts: First of all.. woah. This one was.. woah.

It started off super intense right off the bat and the author touched on very serious issues throughout the book (blackmail, assault, men in power, etc). Very prevalent issues occurring even still to this day. Rush is a soft dom even though he can get brutal if need be (meaning: if she asks him to. And damn does she ask him to…whewww.) and Bree is lovely. She’s headstrong but also vulnerable and together they make a beautiful couple who put everyone else’s needs before their own. Loved it.

The Cabin at the End of the World

Title: The Cabin At The End Of The World

Author: Paul Tremblay

Pages: 272

Publisher: William Morrow

Pub Date: 6/26/18

Date Started: 6/27/21

Date Finished: DNF

Rating: 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

My thoughts: I had high hopes for this one but unfortunately, it really disappointed me. The home invasion concept was great but the execution was lacking. It felt like the author started off with one idea then it just went completely sideways.

The main protagonists were characters I rooted for but, the decisions made by the author for clear shock value just left a bad taste in my mouth. I don’t think I’ll pick up anything else by Tremblay.

Haunted

Title: Haunted

Author: Chuck Palahniuk

Pages: 419

Publisher: Anchor

Pub Date: 6/25/05

Date Started: 7/3/21

Date Finished: 7/7/21

Rating: ❤❤❤

Thoughts: Loved the short poems. Other than that, I found it kind of condescending and all over the place. From what I know, this book started off as just those short poems but it was decided to be released as a full length novel and that disconnect definitely shows in the writing toward the middle. I ended up just reading the poems and skipping the rest.

Gym Bunny

Title: Gym Bunny

Author: Brianna Hale

Pages: 101

Publisher: Self Pub

Pub Date: 1/14/21

Rating: 🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰

My thoughts: Soft doms, a unique gym, sexy spanking scenes and body positivity done the right way. Wonderful. Beautiful. Another hit by Brianna Hale. Hale is slowly becoming one of my fave authors! This book is a part of the Dom Fitness series but I don’t think you have to read the other one in order to enjoy this one. Definitely recommend!

That’s it… for now!

‘Beneath’ by Perrin Briar(Review)

Hi everyone, I’m back! It’s been a minute but I’m back in the game with another review!

So let’s get to it, shall we?

Title: Beneath

Author: Perrin Briar

Pages: 92

Genre: Horror/Zombie

Rating: 🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠

Synopsis: ‘Enjoy The Descent, 28 Days Later, and 30 Days of Night? Then you’ll love Beneath!
Dig deep enough and you’ll always find the Devil.
With the increasing disappearance of miners and a mysterious groan from deep under the earth, rumors begin to circulate of an ancient and deadly curse.

When Mason’s friend goes missing, he leads the search for his good friend. He slips and falls, crashing into an old, disused segment of the pit. Surrounded by evil creatures in the pitch darkness, can he find his way out to warn the locals? Or will the monsters escape and wreak havoc before he gets the chance?

Thoughts: I believe ‘Beneath’ was an Amazon find and I loved it! i was trying to ease myself back into reading and this creepfest was the perfect choice, haha!

‘Beneath’ was such an eerie and unsettling read for me and I’m so glad I picked it back up. The writing style made me picture every last event in this book extremely vividly and I love when books are able to transport me into their world and into whatever the characters are going through!

I’m so upset I can’t for the life of me find links for this book (its out of stock everywhere website I looked on, ugh! But i’ll keep a look out to see if it’s back on any platforms and definitely do check out Perrin Briar if you can!

xoxo, Gigi.  💋

‘Freaky Franky’ (Non-Spoiler Review!)

Hi guys, girls and everyone in between!

Excited to post my first blogpost on this new blog! And thankfully this book wasn’t a doozy.

Disclaimer: This e-book was given to me by the author, however this is still an 100% honest review. Take that as you will..also, there will be mentions of sexual assault in this review-nothing explicit but just be warned.

Alright, let’s get into it!

Title: Freaky Franky

Author: William Blackwell

Publisher: Telemachus Press, LLC

Genre: Occult Horror/Fiction

Pages: 327

Pub Date: 12/3/17

Rating:

Synopsis:

When an enigmatic town doctor saves the life of Anisa Worthington’s dying son, she abandons Christianity in favor of devotion to the cult of Santa Muerte or Saint Death. Some believe the mysterious skeleton saint will protect their loved ones, help in matters of the heart, and provide abundant happiness, health, wealth, and justice. But others, including the Catholic Church, call the cult blasphemous, evil, and satanic.

Anisa introduces Saint Death to her friend Helen Randon, and soon one of Helen’s enemies is brutally murdered. Residents of Montague, a peaceful little town in Prince Edward Island, begin plotting to rid the Bible belt of apostates.

Anisa suspects Helen is perverting the good tenets of Saint Death. Before she can act, a terrible nightmare propels her to the Dominican Republic in search of Franklin, her long-lost and unstable brother, who mysteriously disappeared without a trace twenty years ago.

To her horror, Anisa learns Franklin is worshiping Saint Death with evil intentions. As a fanatical and hell-bent lynch mob tightens the noose, mysterious murders begin occurring all around Anisa. Unsure who’s an enemy and who’s an ally, she’s thrust into a violent battle to save her life, as well as the lives of her friends and brother.” (Goodreads)

My thoughts: I thought this book was..interesting, haha! I did find the characters engaging and I was completely invested in all of them which was great. I don’t know much about La Santa Muerte, so I’m not sure how true to form it’s been depicted in the book. However, this book hooked me enough to make me want to learn all there is to know about her!

One of the gripes I had with this book is how there’s literally no Spanish in it. Considering this book is about La Santa Muerte, I expected some Spanish. That might sound nit picky but reading that something was said in a certain language just kinda takes me out, if that makes sense.

I will also say that the way sexual assault and pedophilia was handled in this book didn’t sit well with me. It was just.. strange. Very casually dealt with, in my opinion. If you see something, SAY something.

So if something like that triggers you, just be warned that that’s there.

But as far as the story itself, I really enjoyed it. It showed just how far people would go when they believe in something, and when they feel alone in the world.

So while this book was nowhere near perfect, I did appreciate the folklore and the lessons that were in it.

I’m on the hunt for some good Santa Muerte content on Netflix now so, if you know of any, please let me know in the comments!

Hope y’all enjoyed! See ya next time!!

Xoxo, Gigi. 💋

P.S: Happy Valentine’s Day! Considering La Santa Muerte is said to help in all aspects of life including love sooo.. I thought it was perfect timing, haha! Ok, byeeee!!

Just wanted to come on here and introduce As Read As A Doornail, Hah!

On this blog I’m going to be reviewing horror, erotica and some other books that may or may have to do with.. taboo subjects.

I didn’t think I’d ever create two blogs but, I really think this was necessary. I want a place where I don’t have to police myself as much as I feel like I have to do on my other blog. I wanna branch out.

I’m so excited to get this started! I know running two blogs is gonna be difficult but I’m excited regardless!

I hope you stick around and/or join me if you haven’t!

Xoxo, Gigi. 💋
